Modules of FeedExpert

There’s always a suitable program for your feed consulting business.

The comprehensive ration calculation program FeedExpert is adaptable for different target groups and can therefore be customized with modular options. Whether you need a basic ration calculation in just a few steps or advanced options for precise compound feed optimization per animal, FeedExpert can be tailored to your needs. We are happy to explore the possibilities with you.

Models in FeedExpert

Making science accessible for practical application—that’s how Rovecom started FeedExpert over 30 years ago. At that time, knowledge from Wageningen University on optimal animal feeding was hardly usable for feed advisors. Over the years, Rovecom has expanded its feeding models through collaborations with universities, independent feed research, and mineral suppliers. Various models are now available for calculating forage intake capacity, energy and protein models, and detailed rumen models.

Dry Matter Intake Model

The dry matter intake model calculates how much forage a cow can consume. This allows for determining how much of the cow’s needs can be met by the basic ration and how much supplemental feed is required. FeedExpert includes:

  • The Dutch Cow Model (1987)

  • The Dutch New Cow Model (2002)

Basic Energy and Protein Systems

Free basic models for optimizing rations for energy, protein, and minerals include:

  • The Dutch VEM-DVE system

  • The German DLG NEL-NxP system

  • The French INRA system

Advanced Feed and Rumen Models

More advanced feed models available in FeedExpert include models from:

  • Cornell University, CNCPS

  • DSM Twilmij, Rumivar

  • Provimi

  • Schothorst Feed Research

  • Trouw Nutrition

Other Models

In addition to standard models, FeedExpert includes various formulas that assist in calculating the optimal ration. Examples include:

  • Structure value, which calculates the risk of acidosis,

  • Calculation of expected urea in milk,

  • Calculation of expected milk production,

  • Methane emissions,

  • Nitrogen and phosphate efficiency,

  • Feed efficiency, IOFC.

Modules

Our nature is to align our services with the unique needs of everyone who wants to calculate a good ration. Therefore, it is possible to choose from many different modules and languages. An overview of the possibilities within FeedExpert:

Ration Types

  • A stable ration where dry matter intake is automatically calculated, or manually set by the advisor if it is accurately measured in a mixer wagon.

  • Individual compound feed advice, allowing for the calculation of individual compound feed recommendations per animal. Based on milk recording data and optionally supplemented with data from the milking robot.

  • Pasture ration, where the feed value of fresh grass is calculated using a formula based on seasonal influences.

  • TMR, total mixed ration.

  • Optimization: An LP optimization option based on "low cost," allowing the calculation of a suitable compound feed in addition to the basic ration. This compound feed serves as the basis for a supplementary compound feed table. FeedExpert has a unique method for combining optimization with a compound feed schedule.

Animal Groups

  • Dairy cattle

  • Young stock and dry cows

  • Beef cattle

  • Goats

  • Pigs

Data Import
Manually typing in results from, for example, grass silage analysis, is time-consuming and prone to errors. How much time could you save if this data were automatically imported? FeedExpert can process data from:

  • Milk recordings

  • Silage results

  • Milk prices from Dutch dairy factories

  • Prices and compound feed compositions from the leading optimization packages.

When it comes to calculating rations, FeedExpert is always a great option.

FeedExpert Module Package

If you calculate rations but don’t work for a company with many colleagues and a central nutritionist, you’re likely looking for a good standard solution. Rovecom Feed can help by offering three robust module packages for dairy cattle and one standard package for beef cattle. We provide a well-filled program and training, so you can get started improving the ration—whether for your own farming business, or as an independent advisor or veterinarian, for example.
